Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, Sławomir Misiak, paid tribute to the memory of Polish soldiers at Tarakaniv Fort.
On a sunny spring day, March 18, 2021, at Tarakaniv Fort in Volhynia in the city of Dubno near Rivne, representatives of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, Consul General of the Republic of Poland Sławomir Misiak and cultural attaché Piotr Urbanowicz visited the grave of soldiers of major Viktor Matchynskyi, who died in the battle against Budonyi’s сavalry during the defense of Fort Zagorce from the Bolsheviks on July 7-21, 1920.
During their stay at the fort, the guests got interesting information from local historians about the events that took place 100 years ago during the defense of Fort Zagorce in the Battle of Polish troops against Budonyi’s cavalry.
Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, Sławomir Misiak, and cultural attaché, Petro Urbanowicz, lit candles near the mass grave of Polish Army soldiers who died in the battle against Budonyi’s cavalry in 1920.
During the meeting, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, Sławomir Misiak, agreed to organize a mini-football tournament in Rivne in September, dedicated to the 138th anniversary of the birth of General of the UNR, Mark Bezruchko, with the participation of the teams of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, Polish scouts of “Volhynia-Rivne” kurin, scouts of Rivne, as well as public representatives of Rivne.
The chief of “Volhynia-Rivne” scouts kurin, Oleksandr Raditsa, the plast confessor of the 33rd Kurin named after Ulas Samchuk in Rivne, historian Fr. Vitalii Porovchuk, Serhii Porovchuk, head of the cultural and educational society named after General of the UNR Mark Bezruchko, and Martin Reuther, head of the NGO “Multicultural Ukraine” also attended the meeting at Tarakaniv Fort.
At the end of the meeting, local historians presented guests from Lutsk with souvenirs connected with the history of Tarakaniv Fort.
The atmosphere at the meeting was warm and friendly.
